█ #FREQUENCIES: Abstract turntablist MARIA CHÁVEZ creates sound art that evokes the unconscious: dizzying timbre changes, random beeps and bubbles, words out of nowhere. MARIA stores her records, her “vocabulary”, in a huge sleeveless pile where they can rub against each other and create new organic scratches. She also “sacrifices” the records that no longer serve her, transforming them into unintentional samples that are layered on top of each other.

María spoke with NOISE is the Message to talk about all these aspects of her work.
