Sculpting Soundscapes from the Environment

Discover how Simon Whetham transforms everyday sounds into immersive art experiences.

Simon Whetham, a British sound artist, has been crafting immersive sonic experiences since 2005. He transforms environmental sounds into captivating installations and performances, turning spaces and objects into instruments. Whetham’s work spans global events, from Fresh Winds Biennale in Iceland to Nakanojo Biennale in Japan and Tsonami Festival in Chile. His collaborations with artists like Tarab and Gregory Büttner push the boundaries of sound art. In Asia, Whetham participated in the ACC Showcase 2018 in South Korea and conducted workshops in Taiwan. His explorations extended to Eastern Europe, where he hosted ‘Active Crossover’ at MoKS in Estonia, supported by the British Council. This project, along with others, has received grants from Arts Council England, fostering international cultural exchanges. As a sound designer, his work has featured in award-winning films and exhibitions.

Whetham’s practice includes conducting global workshops on active listening and field recording, engaging diverse audiences from children to refugees in countries like Colombia, Norway, and Germany.
